“We Ride not to escape life, but for life not to escape us”
Incidentally, not even half the folks that call themselves Bikers actually live the lifestyle of one. And we don’t blame them for it. It’s just the way of the world. It ties you down. Work, career, relationships, responsibility, everything designed to keep you grounded and keep you balanced. On a bike however, it is impossible to attain balance while standing still. You gotta keep moving. The life of a biker is the living embodiment of that statement. Never stuck or tied down, always in a state of departure and arrival.
So what is it about the Biker lifestyle that seems to elude most of us? And more importantly, is it ever possible for a regular man/woman with regular life to be living the Biker lifestyle? And how do we even know if we are actually living one? Here are a few tell tale sign you actually live a biker lifestyle even if you don’t know it:
1. THE ONLY WAY YOU KNOW YOU LOVE SOMEONE IS WHEN YOU LOVE THEM AS MUCH AS YOUR MACHINE:
“The most important thing is to have a good relationship with the bike… you have to understand what she wants. I think of a motorcycle as a woman, and I know that sounds silly, but it’s true.” – Valentino Rossi
If battery problems in your motorcycle gives you sleepless nights, you sure love your motorcycle. If you care for your motorcycle as much as you care for your girlfriend, it is the first sign that you’re living the biker lifestyle.
2. YOU NEVER ASK SOMEONE TO LET YOU RIDE HIS OR HER BIKE:
Neither do you like being asked by someone yourself. If you think it’s just bad manners to ask someone to let you try your hand on their bike until they ask you to, not to mention annoying, then you might be truly livin’ it to the tee. After all there are only but three things bikers don’t like to share; bikes, cigar and women. Exceptional circumstances can always come about, but as a true biker, you got to stick to your own one true machine and not allow yourself to be swayed by the temptation of another’s.
3. THE WORD BROTHERHOOD MEANS MORE TO YOU THAN JUST A BUNCH OF RIDERS GETTING TOGETHER AND HAVING FUN ON THE WEEKENDS:
To you it might even be sacrilegious to say the word in vain. If your sole loyalty lies towards your brotherhood (and your spouse) and if your affiliation with it takes precedence over most or all other matters and concerns of your life, then it’s a bloody good sign that you’re living the biker’s lifestyle.
